Some new ways to enjoy a drink on July 4

Today?s post is a round-up of some Fourth of July weekend drinks, deals and activities that are worth considering. Here they are in no particular order.

- Pizza Port San Clemente is throwing a Fourth of July Rooftop Party from 5 to 10 p.m. on Monday. The details:

$15? for all you can eat BBQ and 2 house beers with $3 beers after.
$10? for all you can eat BBQ and all you can drink soda.
Tri-tip, shrimp, chicken, veggie dishes.
They assure me the rooftop is a perfect spot for viewing the fireworks show as well. And Pizza Port advertises itself as ?kid-friendly.?

Free parking available at the church across the street.

- Newport Beach?s popular SOL Cocina Mexican restaurant is throwing a Fourth of July brunch on Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu includes bottomless mimosa for $10 and $9 for a premium margarita. There?s even dockside service for those who prefer the yacht (or the Duffy) to the car.

- This Saturday, July 2, Whole Foods Market Tustin is hosting an event called All American Wine Picks from 2 to 7:30 p.m. ?Taste Wine Specialists? Nick & Gina?s favorite red, white and blue American wines,? the blurb says. I think I?ll hold off on the blue wine, thanks.

A free appetizer is included with the $10 flight. You must be 21 to drink, of course. Contact the Specialty Department at 714-566-7650 or visit spjamwinenews@wholefoods.com for more info.

- I was inundated with Fourth of July drink suggestions from all manner of spirits distributors. They all seemed a little forced and featured hard stuff I normally don?t like to drink on a warm summer day.? But this one, from Maker?s Mark, was the exception. And bourbon is as American as apple pie, isn?t it?

It?s called the Mark Collins, Maker?s twist on the traditional Tom Collins:

2 parts Maker?s Mark Bourbon
1 part fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
Club soda
Cherry and orange garnish

In a shaker half filled with ice, combine the Maker?s Mark, lemon juice and sugar. Shake well. Strain into a Collins glass (tall glass) filled with ice. Add the club soda. Stir gently and garnish with a cherry and lemon slice.

Sounds like the perfect way to wash down a hot dog. Or avoid one.
