McLaren MP4-12C Spider in Action

McLaren Automotive is planning a surprise concept release at the 2012 Monterey Car Week today, according to insider information we received last night. What exactly McLaren will showcase was still rather unknown until we received an unconfirmed update from a member of our Facebook page. It seems that the MSO department of McLaren is highly involved in the release, but McLaren has not confirmed this statement yet. You can read more about it below!

The official public debut of the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider is part of the Pebble Beach Concours d?Elegance 2012 this weekend. Same goes for the McLaren 12C CAN-AM Edition Racing Concept, which is an one-off design study finished in historic McLaren Orange and satin black. Additionally a rare McLaren F1 GTR Longtail goes up for auction at one of the auctions in Monterey.

McLaren mentioned on Facebook it will have a McLaren on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn. This could hint at an early sneak preview of the upcoming McLaren P12 supercar as part of the surprise planned for today. It would also confirm earlier rumors and reports that the P12 gets a private viewing for interested US customers this weekend ahead of its official worldwide release at the 2012 Paris Motor Show next month.

Update: A Facebook member shared more insight into today?s Quail Motorsports Gathering on our Facebook page. He said they will show a McLaren MP4-12C Spider done by the McLaren Special Operations group and one other MP4-12C with total custom bodywork done for a certain special customer. This could be the surprise concept we have been hearing about!

This unique car is in no way representative of McLaren?s new supercar, according to the Facebook member. It is a one-off 12C built to suit the tastes and desires of one particular customer. Unlike the MP4-12C HS ? of which 10 have now been built - this car will remain unique. The project behind the car is very similar in concept to what Jim Glickenhaus had Pininfarina do with the Enzo, transforming it into the P4/5.

All the information from the Facebook member is still unconfirmed at this stage. We only know that McLaren will showcase a surprise on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn over the coming hours. So stay tuned for more!
