Jencarlos Canela Signs with Universal Music Latin Entertainment ...

August 31, 2012 at 4:00 PM ET [Digital Girl] - Singer-songwriter and SESAC Latina affiliate Jencarlos Canela-one of the most promising young stars in the Latin music industry-announced he signed this week with Universal Music Latin Entertainment, the world's premiere Latin music entertainment company.

Canela, who joined SESAC Latina in 2011 for representation of his performing rights worldwide, emerged as a true phenomenon thanks to his amazing solo compositions and highly-praised collaborations with an A-list of top Latin talents. Many of Canela's major hits were also performed and recorded by such acts as Pitbull, Chino & Nacho, Jos? Feliciano, Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Cata and Banda Los Recoditos, among others.

One of the most versatile and talented Latin artists today, Canela's astonishing proficiency performing in diverse genres earned him the opportunity to collaborate with Pitbull in the hit single "Tu Cuerpo" and to record "Sue?a", one of the commemorative songs of the 2012 Olympics in London. The tune, which was produced by the renowned Emilio Estefan, confirmed him as one of the fastest rising stars in Latin music.

Jencarlos Canela is finalizing details to kick-off the recording process for his much anticipated third studio album, which will be released by Universal Music early 2013 featuring own compositions and remarkable collaborations. One such example is the song he co-wrote with Samo, lead singer of Mexican pop band Camila. The new album is a follow up to "Un Nuevo Dia" (2011) which reached the top of the charts in the United States and Puerto Rico.

"I feel very happy to join a record label that has throughout the years demonstrated a consistency with producing hits and is led by executives that really understand the business and good music. It is a pleasure to be a part of the Universal Music family and I want to thank my great friend Jesus Lopez and all of the Universal Music team for their support and warm welcoming, much respect!", Jencarlos said.
Jencarlos Canela is synonymous of talent and professionalism. At only 24 years of age, he has already amassed performances at more than 200 concerts throughout the world and garnered tremendous success in countries such as Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador, the United States and Puerto Rico.

The young Latin star began his musical career at age 12 as the lead singer of the group "Boom Boom Pop" and graduated with honors from the prestigious academy The New World School of Arts in 2006. His debut album, "Buscame", debuted #1 on the Latin album sales chart and was certified Gold only a few weeks after its release. "Buscame" also set a record as the highest charting Latin debut album ever on an independent label in the history of the Billboard charts. Jencarlos has also been honored with the Premio Lo Nuestro award for "Best New Artist" and was named "Best Young Actor" by the prestigious FAMA award, presented by the magazine of the same name, and the Estrella Awards.

"Jencarlos embodies the young Latino, bilingual and bicultural, born in the U.S. and with a grand international scope for his career. His thorough musical upbringing opens a unique opportunity in this competitive marketplace which is thirsty for talented young individuals who are musicians, composers and singers such as he is. He has also showcased his artistic versatility as one of the most successful young actors on Latin television. All of us at Universal Music feel honored to have Jencarlos entrust us to further develop his musical career," commented Jesus Lopez, Chairman / CEO of Latin America and Iberian Peninsula.

Currently, Jencarlos is preparing his scheduled appearance at the first annual Telemundo's Tu Mundo Awards, where he will surprise fans with a special performance and is the most nominated artist of the night.

Domestic coal use linked to substantial lifetime risk of lung cancer in Xuanwei, China

ScienceDaily (Aug. 30, 2012) ? The use of "smoky coal" for household cooking and heating is associated with a substantial increase in the lifetime risk of developing lung cancer, finds a study from China published on the British Medical Journal website.

This represents one of the strongest effects of environmental pollution reported for cancer risk in any population, say the authors. It also underlines the importance of taking action to minimise exposure to the most hazardous types of fuel.

About half the world's population uses coal and other solid fuels for cooking and heating, often in simple stoves that are unvented.

Exposure to certain types of solid fuel smoke is associated with several diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory infections, and lung cancer. However, the relationship between smoky coal use and lung cancer is not fully understood.

So an international team of researchers compared deaths from lung cancer between lifelong users of "smoky coal" and "smokeless coal" for household cooking and heating in Xuanwei County, Yunnan Provine, China, where lung cancer rates are particularly elevated.

In total, over 37,000 individuals were followed over a 20-year period (1976-96) during which time more than 2,000 deaths from lung cancer were recorded.

After taking account of other possible risk factors including tobacco use, lung cancer cases and deaths were substantially higher among users of smoky (i.e. bituminous) coal for home cooking and heating than users of smokeless (i.e. anthracitic) coal.

In absolute terms, the risk of lung cancer death before 70 years of age for men and women using smoky coal was 18% and 20% respectively, compared with less than 0.5% among smokeless coal users of both sexes. These risks are almost as high as those reported for heavy smokers in Western countries, ranging between 20% and 26%.

Lung cancer deaths were also associated with the average number of hours that a smoky coal user spent at home and the age at which participants started cooking.

The authors say that their findings have important implications for public health in this region of China and suggest that the use of less carcinogenic types of coal or other fuels can translate into a substantial reduction of lung cancer risk.

As this chemical and physical composition of coal differs widely in different geographical locations, additional research is needed on the carcinogenicity of various types of coal, they add.

Suspect escapes during Texas girl assault trial

LIBERTY, Texas (AP) ? One of more than a dozen men and boys accused in the repeated sexual assault of an 11-year-old Texas girl escaped from the courthouse during a break in his trial after the child tearfully testified and jurors watched a video showing one of the alleged assaults.

Eric McGowen, 20, is the first of 14 adults to face trial, accused of sexually assaulting the girl during three months in 2010. Six juveniles also are charged in the attacks in Cleveland, a small town about 45 miles northeast of Houston.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys huddled briefly with Judge Mark Morefield after McGowen failed to return to the courtroom in nearby Liberty following an afternoon break Wednesday.

Morefield said a bench warrant had been issued and that the trial would go on without McGowen. Bail was increased from $35,000 to $250,000.

Defense attorney Matthew Poston and prosecutors did not comment on McGowen's disappearance because of a gag order. The Liberty County Sheriff's Office had no update early Thursday on whether the suspect had been found.

McGowen is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and faces up to life in prison if convicted.

The girl, testifying using a pseudonym, told jurors about two incidents, one in October 2010 and one the following month, in which she said McGowen and several other men and boys took turns sexually assaulting her while recording the encounters on video.

The girl briefly broke down in tears as jurors were shown a few minutes of video of an alleged October 2010 sexual assault in a house in Cleveland where she and the defendants lived.

The girl, who was 11 at the time, said she was brought into what she described as the "baby room," and that McGowen and others took turns sexually assaulting her. She said the video, which several jurors turned away from, was of her being assaulted by another man charged in the case.

"Did the guys just take turns with you?" prosecutor Joe Warren asked.

"Yes, sir," the girl said.

The girl seemed calm for most of the roughly 1? hours she testified. She mostly gave short answers, often pausing to stare at the floor or ceiling of the courtroom before responding.

She described another alleged sexual assault that November that started in a different Cleveland home and continued at a nearby abandoned trailer.

Asked by Warren if more than 20 males might have assaulted her that day, the girl responded, "Probably."

She also told jurors that McGowen assaulted her with a beer bottle during that incident.

Jurors were shown police photos of used condoms and condom wrappers found inside and outside the house after the alleged November incident.

Poston questioned the girl for about six minutes, asking whether she twice had told police early in the investigation that McGowen had never sexually assaulted her. The girl said she didn't remember saying that.

Prosecutors say the girl was assaulted on at least five occasions from mid-September through early December of 2010.

Eight of the 20 defendants accused in the case have pleaded guilty, including all six juveniles.

Authorities began investigating that December, after one of the girl's friends told a teacher he had seen a cellphone video of her being attacked in an abandoned trailer.

Three people who have pleaded guilty ? two adults and a juvenile who has since turned 18 ? also testified Wednesday.

Isaiah Ross, 22, told jurors he saw McGowen sexually assault the girl with a beer bottle. The other adult, Marcus Porchia, 28, and the teen testified they saw others assault the girl but not McGowen.

Ross and Porchia each received 15-year prison terms. The six juveniles who pleaded guilty each received suspended seven-year prison terms.

The case sparked outrage in the roughly 9,000-strong community of Cleveland. Early in the investigation, some residents suggested the girl was partly responsible because they say she wore makeup, looked older than her age and wasn't properly supervised by her parents, drawing widespread condemnation.

The case also has been complicated by a belief among many in the predominantly black neighborhood where several of the suspects live that the arrests were racially motivated. All of the suspects are black, while the girl is Hispanic.

Warren later showed jurors a video and read a written confession in which McGowen admitted to receiving oral sex from the girl.

"What took place to this girl was nothing better than a pack of animals attacking," Warren said.

On Tuesday, Poston tried but failed to get the confessions thrown out, arguing that police had improperly questioned McGowen.

During his opening statement, Poston told jurors that the video evidence in the case doesn't show McGowen sexually assaulting the girl.

"The truth in this case is not always what it seems," he said.

Most of the adult defendants in the case face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, while four face a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Why are there so many species of beetles and so few crocodiles?

ScienceDaily (Aug. 28, 2012) ? There are more than 400,000 species of beetles and only two species of the tuatara, a reptile cousin of snakes and lizards that lives in New Zealand. Crocodiles and alligators, while nearly 250 million years old, have diversified into only 23 species. Why evolution has produced "winners" -- including mammals and many species of birds and fish -- and "losers" is a major question in evolutionary biology.

Scientists have often posited that because some animal and plant lineages are much older than others, they have had more time to produce new species (the dearth of crocodiles notwithstanding). This idea -- that time is an important predictor of species number -- underlies many theoretical models used by biologists. However, it fails to explain species numbers across all multi-cellular life on the planet, a team of life scientists reports Aug. 28 in the online journal PLoS Biology, a publication of the Public Library of Science.

"We found no evidence of that," said Michael Alfaro, a UCLA associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and senior author of the new study. "When we look across the tree of life, the age of the group tells us almost nothing about how many species we would expect to find. In most groups, it tells us nothing."

Another idea, that some groups are innately better or worse at producing species, similarly fails to explain differences in species number among all of the major living lineages of plants and animals, the life scientists found.

"We know that some groups, like flowering plants or cichlid fishes, have been exceptionally good at producing species during certain periods of their evolutionary history," Alfaro said. "However, when we look at the ages of all of the major groups of plants and animals, these differences in speciation rate are not sufficient to explain the differences in species number that exist in extant groups."

Alfaro and his colleagues studied 1,397 major groups of multi-cellular eukaryotes -- including animals, plants and fungi -- that account for 1.2 million species. Working as "evolutionary detectives," they were able to see whether the groups that split the earliest tended to have the most species. They assigned a "species richness score" to these 1,397 groups, using novel statistical and computational methods they developed.

If age does not explain species diversity, an alternative idea is that a lineage will produce species up until the point that it fills an "adaptive zone" that allows a maximum number of species, Alfaro said. In other words, a lineage of bats, whales or penguins has a maximum capacity that is determined by habitat requirements and competitors.

When an adaptive zone is first colonized, the growth of new species will be rapid, up until that limit has been reached. Once a zone is full, this speciation rate will level off. New species will not emerge until one of two events occurs: First, an existing species may go extinct, in which case it may be replaced. Second, a species within the adaptive zone may evolve a new trait -- sharp teeth, wings, chemical defenses or camouflage, for example -- that confers a significant ecological advantage and takes it into a new adaptive zone, creating opportunities for new species to emerge,Alfaro said.

"Adaptive zones are an old idea in evolutionary biology, but there is little understanding of whether speciation rates or adaptive zones are more important in explaining species richness across the tree of life," Alfaro said. "If adaptive zones control biodiversity at the broadest scales, then the rate of species growth will be a good explanation of species richness only right after a lineage has entered into a new adaptive zone. Once the adaptive zone has filled up, then, no matter how much time goes by, the number of species will not change much."

Thus, these adaptive zones, which Alfaro also calls "ecological limits," serve to restrict the number of new species that can emerge.

"Most of the groups that we studied have hit their limits," he said. "Ecological limits can explain the data we see. What's really driving things is how many times lineages evolve new innovations that move them into new adaptive zones.

"The ultimate goal in our field is to have a reconstruction of the entire evolutionary history of all species on the planet," Alfaro added. "Here we provide a piece of the puzzle. Our study sheds light on the causal factors of biodiversity across the tree of life."

Daniel Rabosky, an assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is the lead author of the study, and Graham Slater, a National Science Foundation-funded UCLA postdoctoral scholar in ecology and evolutionary biology, is a co-author.

The research is funded by the National Science Foundation and by the University of California's Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science.

In a 2009 study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Alfaro and his colleagues reported that mammals and many species of birds and fish are among evolution's "winners," while crocodiles, alligators and a reptile cousin of snakes and lizards known as the tuatara are among the "losers." That study also showed that new species emerge nearly as often as they die off.

How to market your Brand like a professional network on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the social network which comes doused with a bit of a scare-factor. While most of us will be familiar with Twitter and Facebook as places that inspire fun, care-free social interaction, LinkedIn appears to be the social network platform equivalent of Alan Sugar?s boardroom. It seems cold, serious and extremely professional.

Linkedin

In some ways this is true. LinkedIn originally marketed itself as?the?network for professionals and for businesses.?The kind of content that?s posted there (on the whole) is more mature and less cavalier.?The reason for this is that people are using it as a networking tool, or a direct platform for business opportunity, as opposed to a somewhere where they can pitch in on the latest internet meme and connect with their audience. Perhaps then, it?s best to summarize LinkedIn as a social network intended for B2B (business to business) communications, as opposed to B2C (business to customer).

With this in mind, you should try your best to fit in and adhere to the hidden etiquette that?lies within?LinkedIn.

Do(s) in Branding Strategy for LinkedIn

  • Use LinkedIn to talk about your?biggest achievements?- either as a business, or personally. You could enter landmark achievements in your company?s time line, such as the takeover of another firm, or big product release. This informs your customer about your past achievements and makes them more likely to partner with you, contact you, or refer your services
  • Continue to post?your latest newsletters, corporate company news and press releases.?LinkedIn marketing?opportunities lie in your ability to tell people what you are doing currently and what?s coming next
  • Fill out your LinkedIn profile in full. The network exists as a kind of living CV, so you should tell your audience as much as you can about yourself and your company. This includes getting your employees to register their profiles at your firm, filling in a profile picture and adding contact details. You never know when someone might be looking for you. The network?s popularity means the chances are they?ll search for you on LinkedIn at some point ? possibly even straight away

Don?t(s) for marketing your Brand

  • Post discussions or content of a?sensitive, defamatory or otherwise questionable manner. With the amount of socially embedded tools around the web, it?s easy to post to the wrong network if you want to share something which you don?t? really want on your ?professional record? lets say
  • Fail to respond to network activity?on LinkedIn. If someone wants to link with you, or asks you a question, don?t miss your opportunity to engage with them and build your network
  • Now that you?ve gone to all the hard work of setting up your network, you shouldn?t forget to?link your other media sites?to it. What?s the point of going to these great efforts if you don?t maximize your exposure to as many others as possible. You might even be responsible for others joining LinkedIn; all just so they can connect with you!

Things to Know About Parenting | Orthadox Home Blog

You should have sufficient knowledge about bringing up kids. In the olden days there were no one teach us or tell us about the particular methods of treating kids and playing with them. But nowadays scientific methods are available to teach them. You should first learn about parenting before you plan about a kid. There are so many classes in the city who give education about how to behave with kids and how to growth with them. If you do not have sufficient time you can read the parenting e-bookavailable in the internet. I learnt about parenting by reading books and e-books. They teach us so many things which we thought are very silly. They tell us how to feed them, what to feed them, how to clear their doubts, and what to play with them, and many more. A mother and father should sit and go through these books before planning for a child.

How Bain Capital execs lower their taxes - The ... - Fortune Finance

FORTUNE -- There has been lots of talk over the past few days about how Bain Capital executives have used management fee waivers?to effectively lower their tax payments (a tactic that is not unique to Bain). Some academics have argued that such waivers are an illegal dodge, while private equity tax attorneys I've spoken with call it "aggressive but accepted by the IRS."

Here is the basic structure: Bain officially charges 2% management fees to investors in its private equity funds. The idea is to cover overhead, such as salaries, office leases, electric bills, etc. ?But Bain has lots of other business lines (venture capital funds, hedge funds, etc.) that generate sufficient cash flow, so it "waives" the PE fund management fees. Well, sort of. Limited partners still pay the 2%, only it flows directly into the fund, as part of Bain's general partner commitment (which is between 10% and 15% of Bain's total PE fund capital, an unusually high percentage).

By doing so, Bain partners don't pay ordinary income taxes on their management fees. Instead, they pay at capital gains rates if/when the deals generate profit (because it's now considered carried interest). It appears that the partners irrevocably waive their rights to the returns if the deal returns less than par, although I don't have access to the LPAs that would spell it out more exactly. That said, sources do tell me that Bain partners cannot take waiver-related capital loss on failed transactions.

Sources sympathetic to such structures cite an IRS ruling (93-27) that specifically seems to allow such waivers, under a notion of partnership risk. Critics say that rule is being perverted, because the risk of loss is so low.

I'm not well-versed enough in IRS minutia to render legal judgment, but do feel that such structures should be banned going forward. Management fees are a fee for service. As such, they should be taxed as ordinary income. If Bain wants to eliminate management fees altogether, then move to a 0-and-32 structure.

To be sure, I have no problem with fund managers pushing some of their fees into funds. I think it's a good thing, as it's a tighter alignment of interests. But I don't see why their capital should be cheaper than that of the high-net-worth investors in their funds (who paid taxes on their pre-commitment monies). Doing so, in fact, depresses that alignment.

Tax law is a funny thing, because certain?strategies aren't black and white. They're subject to interpretation. When I asked a PE tax attorney if what Bain is doing is allowed, she told me that "allowed" and "not allowed" isn't always the right way to think about it. Okay, understood. But some things are explicitly permitted (treating carried interest as capital gains, for example) and other things are explicitly prohibited (taking deductions for work expenses for which I was reimbursed). So let's just add this one to the latter list.

'Cyborg' tissues: Merging engineered human tissues with bio-compatible nanoscale wires

ScienceDaily (Aug. 26, 2012) ? Harvard scientists have, for the first, time created a type of "cyborg" tissue by embedding a three-dimensional network of functional, bio-compatible nanoscale wires into engineered human tissues.

As described in a paper published August 26 in Nature Materials, a multi-institutional research team led by Charles M. Lieber, the Mark Hyman, Jr. Professor of Chemistry at Harvard and Daniel Kohane, a Harvard Medical School professor in the Department of Anesthesia at Children's Hospital Boston developed a system for creating nanoscale "scaffolds" which could be seeded with cells which later grew into tissue.

Also contributing to the work were Robert Langer, from the Koch Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Zhigang Suo, the Allen E. and Marilyn M. Puckett Professor of Mechanics and Materials at Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

"The current methods we have for monitoring or interacting with living systems are limited," said Lieber. "We can use electrodes to measure activity in cells or tissue, but that damages them. With this technology, for the first time, we can work at the same scale as the unit of biological system without interrupting it. Ultimately, this is about merging tissue with electronics in a way that it becomes difficult to determine where the tissue ends and the electronics begin."

The research addresses a concern that has long been associated with work on bioengineered tissue -- how to create systems capable of sensing chemical or electrical changes in the tissue after it has been grown and implanted. The system might also represent a solution to researchers' struggles in developing methods to directly stimulate engineered tissues and measure cellular reactions.

"In the body, the autonomic nervous system keeps track of pH, chemistry, oxygen and other factors, and triggers responses as needed," Kohane explained. "We need to be able to mimic the kind of intrinsic feedback loops the body has evolved in order to maintain fine control at the cellular and tissue level."

Using the autonomic nervous system as inspiration, Bozhi Tian, a former doctoral student under Lieber and former postdoctoral fellow in the Kohane and Langer labs, and collaborator Jia Liu worked in Lieber's lab at Harvard to build mesh-like networks of nanoscale silicon wires -- about 30 -- 80 nm in diameter -- shaped like flat planes or in a reticular conformation.

The process of building the networks, Lieber said, is similar to that used to etch microchips.

Beginning with a two-dimensional substrate, researchers laid out a mesh of organic polymer around nanoscale wires, which serve as the critical nanoscale sensing elements. Nanoscale electrodes, which connect the nanowire elements, were then built within the mesh to enable nanowire transistors to measure the activity in cells without damaging them. Once complete, the substrate was dissolved, leaving researchers with a net-like sponge or a mesh that can be folded or rolled into a host of three dimensional shapes.

Once complete, the networks were porous enough to allow the team to seed them with cells and encourage those cells to grow in 3D cultures.

"Previous efforts to create bioengineered sensing networks have focused on two-dimensional layouts, where culture cells grow on top of electronic components, or on conformal layouts where probes are placed on tissue surfaces," said Tian. "It is desirable to have an accurate picture of cellular behavior within the 3D structure of a tissue, and it is also important to have nanoscale probes to avoid disruption of either cellular or tissue architecture."

Using heart and nerve cells, the team successfully engineered tissues containing embedded nanoscale networks without affecting the cells' viability or activity. Using the embedded devices, they were able to detect electrical signals generated by cells deep within the tissue, and to measure changes in those signals in response to cardio- or neuro-stimulating drugs.

Researchers were also able to construct bioengineered blood vessels, and used the embedded technology to measure pH changes -- as would be seen in response to inflammation, ischemia and other biochemical or cellular environments -- both inside and outside the vessels.

Though a number of potential applications exist for the technology, the most near-term use, Lieber said, may come from the pharmaceutical industry, where researchers could use the technology to more precisely study how newly-developed drugs act in three dimensional tissues, rather than thin layers of cultured cells. The system might also one day be used to monitor changes inside the body and react accordingly, whether through electrical stimulation or the release of a drug.

Elderly Care Abuse And Signs and symptoms of Neglect ? Long ...

Under South Carolina law, physical abuse includes: slapping, striking, kicking, biting, choking, pinching, burning, dragging the patientas well as confining a patient to control his or her behavior.

A staff memberdoesn?t have to inflict abuse to be held accountable for the actual physical abuse. An individual may be held responsible if he or she lets it happenwithout doing anything to stop or prevent the abuse.

Signs and symptoms ofElder Abuse and Neglect:

Nursing homeresidentssuffering from the physical harm of their care providerscommonly exhibit:

bruises, welts, burn injuries
unexplained fracturesand other physical injuries
repeated accidents
injuries left untreated
In addition, the patient may

refer to their caregiver?s poor temperament or anger
be anxious or silent around their caregiver
run away from the facility or attempts to run away from the facility
have marks or scarring resulting from restraints that have been placed on their wrists or arms
exhibit signs that they are suffering from the effects of chemical restraints including incoherence, grogginess, excessive sleep, sudden fear, uneasiness, or anxiety
beprohibited from obtaining medical treatment or be restricted from seeing guests
Emotional Abuse at a Nursing Home

may include: participating in any act of intimidating behavior that creates fear, humiliation, degradation, agitation, confusion, or any other kinds ofseverepsychologicalstress.

Indications of Abuse:

mysterious changes in conduct
withdrawal from family and friends
fear, uneasiness, anxiety
unexplained weight gain or loss
sudden loss of interest in living
a sudden decline of mentalwell being
signs of anxiousness, distrust or fear toward their caregiver,
signs and symptoms of extreme shock including thegrowth and development of tics such as rocking or refusing to speak
isolation
Nursing home abuse and neglect lawsuitscan be difficult to establish because of a widespread tendency among insurance adjusters, physicians and others, to discount an elderly person?s personal injuries and to ignore the diminished quality of lifethat results from a South Carolina nursing home abuse or neglect case.

For all of these reasons, it really is both an honor and a challenge to represent your loved on in a nursing home abuse or neglect case.

The Strom Law Firm?s comprehensiveinvestigation and effective presentation of the losses suffered by an elderly client, supply the background required topersuade both jurors and insurance adjusters to fully compensate injured elders.

Estimates are that 700,000 to 3.5 million senior citizens are abused, neglected or even exploitedeach year. However, most seniorsare afraid to report their experiences and therefore, are forced to continue to endure the abusive situation.

Without awareness, public education, and swift action, these kinds of cases will only increase as the baby boomer population ages. Let?s put an end to elder care abuse, neglect and exploitation. Suspicions of elder abuse should be reported and we should educate elder careresidents about their rights.

Greek PM seeks "breathing space" as talks begin

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece's Prime Minister Antonis Samaras started a European charm offensive on Wednesday with an appeal to Germans for more time to meet targets for deficit cuts, but may struggle to make his case in meetings this week with EU leaders.

"All we want is a bit of 'air to breathe' to get the economy running and to increase state income. More time does not automatically mean more money," Samaras told Germany's mass-market Bild newspaper, which often mocks Greece's dire finances.

"Let me be very explicit: we demand no additional money. We stand by our commitments and by fulfilling all our requirements. We have to crank up growth because that decreases the financial gaps," Samaras added in the interview, which ran hours before he begins talks in Athens with euro zone chief Jean-Claude Juncker.

Appointed in June after two tumultuous parliamentary elections, Samaras hopes to persuade Luxembourg premier Juncker that the debt-laden Greek nation has the will to ram through unpopular reforms and deserves more time to do it, without being cut off from European rescue loans.

With cash coffers running empty and renewed talk of a Greek euro zone exit without more aid, Samaras is under pressure to convince European leaders that Greece has finally mustered the political courage to make good on commitments in a bailout.

Juncker, the most influential European policymaker to visit Athens since the conservative-led government took power on June 20, is expected to tell Samaras bluntly that Greece must carry out promised cuts and that little room for leeway exists.

In response to Samaras's comments to Bild, the Dutch finance minister gave a taste of the skepticism among the euro zone's less-indebted northern states towards Greece: "If it concerns delaying reforms and budget cuts, then it is not a good idea," Jan Kees de Jager told reporters.

Such messages are likely to be hammered home again to the Greek leader when he travels to Berlin on Friday to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and to Paris a day later for talks with French President Francois Hollande.

Merkel has already said she and Samaras will not make any decisions during their talks, adding she would wait for a report from lenders on Greece's progress in meeting targets. That report is not expected until late September.

Shortly after being elected, Samaras's government promised he would tour Europe to seek two more years to hit targets under Greece's 130-billion euro bailout from the European Union and International Monetary Fund.

But faced with a lack of European appetite for cutting Greece more slack, the government has since toned down its rhetoric on the issue and now expects merely to broach the idea during talks this week rather than formally requesting it.

"We must first re-establish our relationship with European partners that has been seriously damaged," said a Greek government official, who declined to be identified. "This is most crucial. Talking about certain parameters then comes at a second stage."

WRANGLING OVER CUTS

Key to restoring credibility will be Greece's attempt to push through 11.5 billion euros of cuts over the next two years as demanded under the bailout - which Samaras's administration has yet to fully piece together after weeks of wrangling.

Samaras and his allies have broadly agreed on the measures, but the government is struggling to nail down the final cuts amid howls of protest over plans to slash pensions and put civil servants in a so-called labor reserve before laying them off.

"We are trying to find the best possible mix and a fair distribution of pensions," a finance ministry official said.

The measures will be presented for approval to the "troika" of officials from the European Commission, European Central Bank and IMF due back in Athens early next month before a verdict in October on whether to keep money flowing to Greece.

After his election victory in June averted fears of an imminent Greek euro zone exit, Samaras won a positive initial reception from European governments, relieved that firebrand leftist leader Alexis Tsipras failed to assume power.

Tsipras's SYRIZA party, which campaigned on a pledge to abandon the terms of the bailout keeping Greece afloat, said Juncker had turned down a request to meet its young leader.

SYRIZA lawmaker Dimitris Papadimoulis called the snub "a massive institutional discourtesy and an insult".

"I have the feeling that the leaders of the European Union and the euro zone prefer to talk with those who agree with them, or those they consider convenient," he told Skai television. "Mr. Juncker needs to give an explanation, because from what I see, tomorrow he is free all morning."

Juncker's schedule includes a visit to the Acropolis Museum later on Wednesday, where Samaras hosts a dinner in his honor.

With power firmly in the hands of Samaras's pro-bailout coalition and SYRIZA relegated to the opposition, a Reuters poll last week showed a rising number of economists now believe Greece will remain in the euro zone.

But the country is hugely off track from targets under its bailout and EU officials expect a further debt restructuring will be likely - with the cost falling on the ECB and euro zone governments.

Greece blames the slippage on a deeper than expected recession that is now in its fifth year and which Athens has likened to America's Great Depression. Nearly one out of four Greeks are jobless, and thousands of businesses have shuttered since the sovereign debt crisis exploded in 2009.

Handling Infertility | Natural health | Therapy | Holistic Healing ...

Foods to assist in pregnancyDid you know that stress can prevent you from falling pregnant and that a large number of small stresses are far worse than that one big problem? Did you also know you can test for stress by testing the levels of Cortisol in the body?

Latest studies show that reducing stress can restore normal ovulation. Amenorrhea is a lack of monthly periods and ovulation. It is caused by stress, poor nutrition and sometimes too much exercise. The hormone Cortisol increases when a person is stressed.

A recent study showed that cognitive behavior therapy increased fertility in 80% percent of women and that their Cortisol levels also dropped. Almost 5-10% of women suffer from amenorrhea at some stage and there are many natural supplements to assist.

The definition of infertility applies really only after one year of ?normal? marital relations without contraceptives or if the woman conceives but aborts naturally and repeatedly. There are many causes which in females can range from nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, infections, endometriosis which can lead to blockage of the Fallopian tubes or tumors and developmental anomalies of the organs. Sometimes this is caused by endocrine atrophy after oral contraceptives have been discontinued but this may correct itself in time.

In males causes can be due to sperm deficiencies (low sperm count, impaired motility or other abnormalities). Males are usually involved in 40% of infertility cases. A combination of factors is common and it is also related to anxiety and fatigue.

It is possible that high numbers of natural supplements usually make the body more fertile. These can be stopped once pregnancy occurs and both partners need lifestyle and dietary changes to improve their levels of fitness, lose weight if obese, eliminate tobacco and alcohol, avoid refined carbohydrates such as sugar, soft drinks, chocolate, white four, ice-cream and processed foods.

It is good to have a high vegetable and fruit intake with reasonable amounts of seeds and yogurt. Nuts and seeds are high in kilojoules though so watch how many you eat and a multivitamin is essential.

Natural supplements for females can range from herbs such as golden seal, raspberry, red clover, sarsaparilla and sweet violet. All infections need to be treated as well as Candida albicans and it is a good idea to avoid coffee. An increase in protein, vitamin E and iron is also a good idea.

Males would benefit from Ginseng, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc and a multivitamin. Also it is not a good idea for them to wear tight fitting underwear or pants or to take too hot baths or showers.

If you have had a repeated number of miscarriages herbs such as alfalfa, golden seal, raspberry leaf and sarsaparilla are good. These prior to pregnancy strengthen the uterus but you must also adjust your diet. Tissue salts such as Kali Phos or Nerve 5 are good for nervous strain.

On the no list is too much chocolate, margarine, processed oils, cows milk, tea, coffee, soft drink, cordial and yeast. Swimming and walking are good exercises in moderation.

If you are having problems with fertility or miscarriage though don?t try and do it alone. Contact your natural therapist and follow their instructions. There is lots of natural help around.

You can use some of these proven list-building techniques to get started.

An opt-on form is going to have to be added to your site that allows people to sign-up to. Widgets are for blog based sites so if they don?t fit your needs then there are other programs and code to choose among. If your website has interesting content then building your subscription list will be almost effortless. Just put the sign-up form in a good place and let people use it at will. Even better, if focus on giving out useful and valuable information then people will come looking for your site just to get on the your list.

Don?t make it difficult for people to type in their e-mail addresses. You should have an easy to see opt-in form prominently displayed on your site. This form should really jump out at the visitor so it?s not overlooked. You should not reserve one special page for this form, but have it displayed on all of your pages and on every website or blog that is on the same topic. Remember, people are busy and easily distracted, so you don?t want to make typing in their e-mail address something they have to think about too much. If you make visitors feel that signing up for your list is an easy and natural thing to do, you will soon have a huge list of e-mail addresses!

One simple way to build a list is to advertise! Advertise in a way that makes it clear people can get something for free, whether it?s a gift or a newsletter. For best results, target your advertising so it?s seen by people who have an interest in your niche; this can be on or offline classifieds as well as websites or newsletters.

If you advertise in the right places, this can be a great way to get lots of subscribers. Advertising is also a completely honest way to build your list, as you are telling people exactly what you have to offer. Selling to a list is so popular among top marketers for a reason. Your readers will become accustomed to receiving e-mails from you and will actually start to look forward to seeing your name in their in-box. If you keep at it and only sell quality products you could wind up with a list full of people who will buy anything you offer them simply because you are the person offering it. The time that it takes to build your list all depends on what tactics you use. But if you use tactics that actually work to build your list then you are half way there to having a large audience of buyers to sell to.
