Nevada's Sen. Harry Reid Profile - Society

Senator Harry Reid from Nevada reportedly objected President Obama's jobs-stimulus bill. Although in fact, the Nevada Democrat is sponsoring Mr. Obama's bill but he said other matters take priority. Majority Leader Harry Reid said that the aims for the Senate to take its first vote on the jobs plan ?very, very soon,? after it completes work on China currency legislation. Harry Reid has recently introduced a bill that would increase the tax on American adults making more than $1 million a year by 5 percent in 2012, and then raise that level to 5.6 percent in 2013. On the other words, according to Reid bill, the surtax would raise $453 billion, or enough money to pay for President Barack Obama's $447 billion jobs bill.

Harry Reid has been the senior United States Senator from Nevada since 1987 and also the Senate majority leader. It is necessary to refer that previously, Harry Reid was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Nevada's 1st congressional district, and served in Nevada local and state government as city attorney of Henderson, a state legislator, Lieutenant Governor, and chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. He narrowly prevailed in a hard-fought race for re-election in 2010, after emerging as one of the Republicans' chief targets. During the first two years of President Obama's term, it was up to Mr. Reid to force the president's agenda through the deeply divided, rule-bound Senate after items had passed the House, where majority rule is a reality.

Harry Reid married his high school sweetheart, Landra Gould in 1959. They have a family with five children, a daughter and four sons. Their eldest son named Rory Reid is said to be an elected Commissioner for Clark County, Nevada, and 2010 Democratic nominee in the election for Governor of Nevada. Another son recently ran for municipal office in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. It is sad to know that Harry Reid?s wife Landra was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer and is undergoing treatment.
